Pediatric ENT Care in Minnesota

Because Your Child Deserves the Best ENT Care

Common Pediatric Conditions and Treatments

You can entrust your child’s care to one of the most skilled pediatric ENT care teams in Minnesota. We welcome pediatric patients from the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota for comprehensive ear, nose and throat specialty care, including the Hummingbird® procedure for ear tubes. We know that your child’s ENT health is too precious to trust to just anyone — but at Renew ENT & Hearing Center, our knowledgeable and caring staff are just what you and your child need.

Pediatric Ear Care

Children are more susceptible to ear issues for two reasons. They have less developed immune systems, making it easier for infections to take hold. Secondly, a child’s Eustachian tubes, the narrow tubes that connect the middle ear to the back of the nose, are smaller and more horizontal, making it more difficult for fluid to drain out of the ear. Our team can help with:

  • Hearing loss
  • Ear pain/drainage
  • Cerumen debridement (ear wax removal)
  • External ear cosmetic procedures
  • Ear tube placement
  • Hummingbird® TTS Ear Tube Procedure
  • Tympanoplasty (eardrum repair)
  • Comprehensive audiology exam
  • Hearing aid evaluation/fitting
  • Hearing aid repair/maintenance
  • Custom ear molds

Pediatric Throat and Swallowing Issues

Throat and swallowing issues can be especially challenging with children, who may not have the words to explain their discomfort. At Renew ENT, we can diagnose and treat swallowing issues from infancy through adolescence. This includes:

  • Sore throat/tonsillitis
  • Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Odynophagia (pain with swallowing)

Other throat issues include chronic throat pain, or difficulty breathing due to enlarged adenoids. For treatment of chronic throat conditions we offer pediatric surgical services:

  • Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy

Pediatric Nose and Sinus Conditions

If your child is having issues beyond the standard stuffy nose, Renew’s friendly and sure-handed ENT team can help. Issues such as a nasal obstruction could be caused by a cold, a developmental abnormality or a misplaced object. Either way, our specialists will handle your child’s discomfort with care.

Here for you and your child, when you need it most, our team will also set noses and address recurring bleeding when nasal trauma occurs.

Pediatric Allergies

Children can be affected by allergic rhinitis due to pollen, dust mites, mold and much more. If your child is chronically suffering from sneezing, a stuffy or runny nose or even nose bleeds, they may have allergies. Allergies may also cause recurring ear infections, snoring and mouth breathing.

Addressing allergies in children may improve your child’s concentration and mood. The ENT team at Renew is ready to help your child seek relief.

Pediatric Specialties

Our audiologists have over three decades of experience providing complete diagnostic testing for all ages to determine the type and severity of any hearing loss that may be present. Some types of hearing loss are medically correctable and the diagnostic evaluation assists our medical staff in determining the best course of treatment. However, some types of hearing loss are not medically correctable and require amplification.

The audiology staff of Joni Amrhein, MS, and Jon Schee, MS, are well qualified to counsel you and your child regarding hearing loss and will help you select the right hearing devices. Lastly, they’ll fit your child with the perfect hearing aids for their lifestyle, comfort and needs.

When children suffer from frequent middle ear infections that are difficult to treat with antibiotics, medical professionals will often recommend pediatric ear tubes to help children’s ears drain properly. While inserting ear tubes used to require putting patients under general anesthesia, The Hummingbird® Device has revolutionized and simplified ear tube placement.

The Hummingbird® is an FDA 510k-cleared device. It simplifies the ear tube placement process into an in-office procedure with local anesthesia. This is a quick procedure that’s effective for six months or more.

A tonsillectomy (removal of the tonsils) with or without adenoidectomy (removal of the adenoids) is one of the most common pediatric surgeries in the United States. If your child has repeated bouts of tonsillitis, indicated by infected and swollen tonsils, a tonsillectomy can provide long term relief and help avoid potentially serious complications.
